Aldo in NYC!

Finally, Aldo gelato and sorbet has opened in NYC!! It's called Screme, but it's the same owner, and most importantly, the same recipes. I went to the (tiny) one on 69th and B-way, but there's also one in Times Square, and they're planning to open a big one on the Upper East in about a month. So exciting that one does not have to travel to J-lem to get kosher Aldo now! And also the owner explained that since there are 53 chains in Israel, everything is made in a central factory, so the gelato is usually about 2 weeks old once it's served. In NY, though, the gelato is made on the spot, so it's served the same day it's made. On the other hand, the fruit in Israel is better, so the sorbet tends to be better. Give and take.

Hurray. There a lot to do at aldo, like pistachio / dark chocolate sundaes and berry flavors (which will hopefully be better in states). Good to know about the 2-week delay / fresh produce trade-off, tho their glida is still berry, berry good. Take a container for shabat desserts!

Ilana and i found this excellent new place in the shuk that rivals Aldo with exotic and creative flavors like "za'atar" and "santa roza" (don't know what that is yet):
